Goals

The main objective of the Telecommunications Engineering Technology program is to produce graduates who are able to design and maintain the telecommunications infrastructure.

Objectives

Analytical Objective

Graduates will be able to employ theoretical principles, mathematical techniques and scientific methods to predict and analyze the performance of telecommunications systems as well as design systems according to specifications.

Communications Objective

Graduates will be able to effectively communicate their ideas in both written and oral form understanding that communication is a cooperative process.

Collaboration Objective

Graduates will be prepared to work in the groups and distributed teams.

Design Objective

Graduates will be able to identify and solve problems in telecommunications systems and networks.

Graduates will be able to model and simulate telecommunications systems and networks on order to identify and solve these problems.

Graduates will be able to apply computer and electrical engineering techniques towards solving problems in telecommunications systems and networks.

Life-long Learning Objective

Graduates will recognize that life-long learning is essential to the ongoing process of professional and personal development.

Management Objective

Graduates will be able to operate and manage telecommunications networks, projects and personnel. The ability to use project management tools and techniques, as well as formulate and measure milestones and deliverables is emphasized.

Professional Ethics Objective

Graduates will have an understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities, as well as an understanding of the possible social, economic, cultural and environmental impact of their engineering solutions in a global context.

Practical Objective

Graduates will be able to take a telecommunications project from inception to completion, including recognizing the problem and designing a solution upon which they build, test, modify and verify that the solution meets system requirements.

Research Objective

Graduates will have strong information literacy and will possess the ability to know when information is needed, how to use it, and how and where to retrieve it.

Security Objective

Graduates will be able to use security tools in maintaining network integrity and sustainability, and also be able to implement cryptographic and error-correction techniques in a wide variety of situations and applications.

Technical Objective

Graduates will be able to use state-of-the-art telecommunications diagnostic equipment in the identification and troubleshooting of a physical, electrical or networking problem.

These objectives are reviewed periodically for currency and relevancy by the department and its faculty, addressing input from the industry through our industrial advisory boards and Capitol College alumni.

Outcomes

Upon graduation students will have:
