Violations and Sanctions Policy

All violations will be reported in writing to the Information Services and Technology Department. The office will coordinate the disciplinary process and determine if a conference or judicial hearing should occur. An informational copy, with any recommendations of disciplinary action, of each violation report will be forwarded to the dean of students.

Concealing Email Identity
Using a pseudonym or writing an anonymous message that appears to disassociate anyone from the responsibility of their actions is considered a violation.

  • First offense: email probation
  • Second offense: loss of email privileges
Email Chain Letters and Mass Mailings
Emailing chain letters and sending large mailings are prohibited. Exceptions to this policy are granted to authorized personnel only when bulk mailings support the mission of Capitol College.
  • First offense: verbal warning
  • Second offense: written warning
  • Third offense: email suspension for a designated period of time

Improper Email Account Access
Email account security is each individual's responsibility. Passwords and account access should not be given out to anyone else.

  • First offense: email probation
  • Second offense: loss of email privileges

Email Usage for Commercial/Personal Profit
Using an email account for personal or commercial profit is strictly prohibited.

  • First offense: suspension of email privileges
  • Second offense: loss of email privileges

Offensive, Harassing, Defamatory Messages or Transmitting Lewd Material
Sending offensive, harassing, lewd or defamatory messages is prohibited.

  • Sanctions range from email suspension for a designated period of time to loss of privileges.

Student Web Pages
Anyone who is uncertain whether a particular use is proper should consult with the Office of Information Services and Technology prior to publication.

  • Sanctions range from page removal to loss of network access.

Pornographic materials
Viewing, downloading, printing or "chatroom" involvement of obscene, pornographic or inappropriate materials is prohibited.

  • First offense: expulsion from the public facility of access
  • Second offense: referral to a judicial hearing
