Montgomery GI Bill - Active Duty

The Montgomery GI Bill provides up to 36 months of education benefits if you began active duty for the first time after June 30, 1985.  If you completed an enlistment of more than three years, your basic full-time monthly benefit is $985; veterans with enlistments less than three years can receive $800.

First Time Applicants

  • You must complete VA form 22-1990, Application for VA Educational Benefits.
  • If you are a veteran, you must submit a photocopy of your DD214(s).
  • If you are on active duty, have your education officer sign item number 20a of your VA form 22-1990.
  • Submit DD form 2366 if your eligibility for Chapter 30 is based on your decision to disenroll from Chapter 32 and enroll in Chapter 30.

Veterans Who Have Previously Used Benefits at Capitol College

  • If more than six months have elapsed since you last used your benefits at Capitol College, or you have changed your course of study (undergraduate to graduate), you must complete VA form 22-1995, Request for Change of Program or Place Place of Training.
  • If your status has changed from active duty to veteran status, you must complete VA form 22-1990, Application for VA Educational Benefits.
  • Active duty students must have their education liaison officer sign number 17 of VA form 22-1995.

Transfer Students

  • If you have used veterans educational benefits at an institution other than Capitol College, you must complete VA form 22-1995, Request for Change of Program or Place of Training.
  • If you are on active duty, your education liaison officer must sign number 17a of VA form 22-1995.
  • If you were on active duty at another institution but are now classified as a veteran, you must complete VA form 22-1990, Application for VA Educational Benefits, and submit a copy of your DD214.

Where to Send Your Forms
Veteran educational forms are available on the US Department of Veterans Affairs website at the following address: www.gibill.va.gov

Send your completed forms to either the Capitol College Office of Financial Aid or mail them directly to: VA Processing Center, VA Regional Processing Office, PO Box 4616, Buffalo, New York 14240-4616.

Mailing your forms directly to the VA Payment Processing Center will expedite the application process.  If you decide to mail the form directly to Buffalo, New York, please fax a copy of what you have sent to the Veterans Administration to 301-369-2328.
