Director of Academic and Institutional Research

The Director works with the Vice Presidents for Academic Affairs and Advancement to provide research opportunities, funding, and results beneficial to the college. The Director serves as the institution’s lead for faculty, staff and administration in providing guidance and direction in identifying and acting upon potential sources for academic, enrollment, advancement and related external resources.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify and establish a resource database for potential grants, contracts, endowments and foundations, for furthering academic programs, enrollments, and student services at Capitol College.
  • Research sources of federal, state, corporate and foundation funding, and match opportunities to college needs and strategies.
  • Maintain contacts and relationships with agents of potential grants and contracts.
  • Write effective proposals for funding and reports to executive leadership of the college.
  • Perform institutional research and benchmarking projects as requested by the Executive Council.
  • Provide active support for senior capstone-related courses and projects, for faculty applied research projects, and for management’s strategic initiatives.
  • Advise Chief Academic Officer on plans for faculty professional development in research methods and opportunities.
  • Represent the college at selected external events, and participate in college-wide activities.

Qualifications Requirements:

  • Interpersonal skills - establish and maintain collaborative working relationships and encourage constituents’ participation with the college.
  • Program management skills - manage priorities, resources, projects, schedules, information and support staff.
  • Business skills - manage human, financial and information resources strategically and operationally.
  • Results Orientation – meet organizational and customer expectations; make decisions producing high-quality results by applying technical knowledge, analyzing problems and calculating risk.
  • Writing skills – write persuasive proposals and effective reports.
  • Marketing skills – communicate ideas and competitive advantages, and influence others to support new directions.
  • Must have a bachelor's degree in English, marketing, journalism, communication or related field. Five years experience.
  • Research and writing experience, preferably for an institution of higher education or other nonprofit organization.
  • Knowledge of and experience with granting and contracting organizations.
