Vice President for Advancement, Chief Advancement Officer

Capitol College, a growing college of engineering, information technology and business located in Laurel, Maryland seeks an experienced fund-raising professional to serve as the Vice President for College Advancement and lead the advancement enterprise, including philanthropic development, alumni relations, marketing and communications, and government relations. Working closely with senior leadership, faculty, staff, and alumnae/i, the VP is well positioned to move the advancement program forward and build on the college's remarkable history and continued renaissance.

The VP will bring proven experience, creativity and leadership to Capitol College's advancement mission. Significant experience leading all aspects of a comprehensive management experience, campaign leadership experience, direct solicitation experience including endowment funding, intellectual curiosity and agility required. The VP will have the capability, determination, and ingenuity to thrive in the college's intimate, intellectually dynamic, and diverse community.

Responsibilities:
The vice president leads and manages:

  • Involvement of alumni in donating wealth and wisdom to the college;
  • The Annual Fund, Capital Campaigns, and other fund-raising college initiatives;
  • Community events and activities led, hosted, or supported by the College;
  • Relationships with companies and agencies to support internships and related practical learning opportunities, job placement and career services, and participation in college centers and institutes (currently the Space Operations Institute, Critical Infrastructure and Cyber Protection Center, and Innovation and Leadership Institute);
  • College marketing, communications, and publications;
  • Liaison with the departments of Admissions & Recruiting, Student Life and Retention, Outcomes and Assessment and Professional Services to identify and pursue growth opportunities for the college.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree, master's preferred and At least five years' experience leading all or part of an institution's advancement efforts.
  • Success in managing institutional relations for a service organization – preferably a small, independent institution of higher education, or another organization linked to such a college or university;
  • Success in procuring funding for an organization, through proposals and procurements, government influence, or development of sponsoring/donating organizations and individuals;
  • Exceptional abilities to write proposals, reports, and other college documents;
  • Successful experience in marketing, sales, or promotions for a growing organization;
  • Ability to integrate and nurture common purposes among internal and external constituents;
  • Ability to articulate and represent the interests and goals of higher education in engineering, technology and business.
  • The highest level of professional ethics, and dedication to the cause of the organization
