Packing Guide & Move-In Info

What to Bring:

Extra Long Twin Linens, Pillows, Towels, Blankets, Alarm Clock, Flashlight, Hangers, Dishes and Silverware, Pots and Pans, Laundry Supplies, Radio, Pictures, Posters, Bookbag, Small fan, Study Light, Rain/Snow gear, Iron w/ Automatic Shutoff, Personal Hygiene Items, Shower Tote, Cleaning Supplies, Key chain, Desk/School Supplies (pens, pencils, stapler, paper, tape, etc.), Address Book, Envelopes and stamps, Extension Cord, Calendar, Message Board for door, and Sports Equipment.

Don't Forget...

Prescriptions, Lots of Quarters for Laundry, List of Important Phone Numbers, Batteries, CDs, Suntan Lotion, Calculator, Broom/Dustpan, Wastebasket, Mac and Cheese, Books, TV, Dishwasher Detergent, Toilet Paper, First Aid Kit

When you arrive on campus...

There will be signs directing you to the residence hall check-in area. The Residence Life Staff will assist you in the check-in process, which consists of:

  • Having a signed housing agreement
  • Payment (if applicable)
  • Receiving keys to your room, apartment, and mailbox
  • Inspecting your room with a Resident Assistant and signing the room/apartment condition forms

 

Because of the special nature of the Residence Hall Community, Please DO NOT bring the following items:

  • Pets (except non meat-eating fish)
  • Candles and Incense
  • Amplifiers
  • Kegs, Beerballs, or Taps
  • Firearms or other weapons (including splatball and BB guns)

Reminders:

  • Extension cords used in rooms and appliances used in kitchens should be U.L. approved. U.L. approved power strings with fuses or circuit breakers are encouraged.
  • If possible, check with your roommate to minimize duplication of large items.
  • Each room is furnished with a window covering.
  • All carpet and furniture brought into the residence hall must be in good condition. In addition, the furniture assigned to your room must remain in your room. We cannot store room furniture for students.
  • Residence Hall-size refrigerators(less than 5 cubic feet) are allowed in the rooms.

The Resident Assistant Office is located in the laundry room, which is located in the first building in front of Alexander G. Bell Hall. If you arrive after the designated check-in period, please call 301-655-2116 when you arrive.
