Alumni Events

The Capitol College Alumni Association provides a series of events for alumni to network, socialize and connect with the college and old friends.   If you have an idea for a future alumni event in your area or are interested in learning about events or the Association contact Jason Copley, director of development.

Alumni Scavenger Hunt

Join Capitol alumni and the Class of 2012 on May 5, 2012 for a scavenger hunt through out DC! 

Registration

Registration Fee $5 person or $15 team (your registration fees go directly to providing great prizes). Teams of 2-5 people (Don’t have a team, don’t worry! We will find one for you. All Alumni and new graduates welcome to participate and feel free to bring spouses, friends and significant others)

Schedule

  • 10:00 a.m. - Meet up in the middle of the Grand Hall in Union Station, Washington DC to receive your list of tasks.
  • 10:00 a.m.– 2:00 p.m. - Teams set free in the city to complete tasks while taking pictures to record each task.
  • 2:00 p.m. - You better be punctual as the contest ends at 2pm and you must give Ken Kassing (alumni council president) your pictures.

Prizes

Specific prize categories will be announced when we meet up at 10 a.m. at Union Station and all prizes will be awarded at the Alumni and Graduate Reception on May 11, 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. at Capitol College.

Requirements

Must use a digital camera or device in which you can transfer your pictures immediately to Ken Kassing (alumni council president) at 2 p.m. at Union Station.

Alumni and Graduate Reception

The Alumni and Graduate Reception will be held on May 11, 2012 at 5:00pm on campus in the William G. McGowan Academic Center.Meet up with old friends, make new ones and congratulate the Class of 2012 at the largest alumni reception of the year.  RSVP to alumni@capitol-college.edu by May 7. Note: Campus tours are also available on Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. 

Alumni Council Meetings

The Alumni Council regularly holds meetings to discuss upcoming events and opportunities for alumni to become involved with Capitol programs and events. If you are interested in participating on the Council or a subcommittee contact the Development office at alumni@capitol-college.edu or 301-369-2800 ext. 3097.

Commencement

Commencement will take place on May 12, 2012. Volunteer to sit in the alumni tent and wish the class of 2012 good luck as they graduate.  Limited opportunities available, RSVP to alumni@capitol-college.edu by May 7.

Scholarship Golf Tournament

The Capitol College Scholarship Golf Tournament will be on Sept. 21, 2012 (Shotgun Start 8:00 a.m.) at the Glenn Dale Golf Club in Glenn Dale, Maryland. Join Capitol alumni and community friends for a day of golfing to fund student scholarships. To register visit www.capitol-college.edu/golf.

Scholarship Appreciation Breakfast

On April 11, 2012 at 8:00am alumni who previously received scholarships are invited to join current scholars, faculty and staff in showing their appreciation to benefactors for their generous contributions to student scholarships at the Scholarship Appreciation Breakfast. Western Maryland Alumni Happy Hour

Join Capitol Alums on April 4, 2012 at Brewer’s Alley in Frederick, Maryland for happy hour from 5:30 – 7:30pm.  All Capitol alums are welcome to attend, if you cannot make it and are interested in attending or bringing an alumni happy to your local area please contact alumni@capitol-college.edu.

Career Fair: Capitol College

Attend the Career Fair on March 30, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. as a recruitee or recruiter.  The Capitol College Career Fair provides students and alums with opportunities to meet potential employers within the industry.  Alums can attend as a recruitee to meet employers or as recruiters and have a table to promote their company.  For more information contact alumni@capitol-college.edu.

"Social Hour" at C.J. Ferrari’s

Following the Career Fair on March 30, 2012 alumni and alumni employers will join students from the Class 2012 for a “social hour” from 3 – 5 pm at C.J. Ferrari’s in Laurel, Maryland. This is a great opportunity for alums to meet the Class of 2012.  This networking event is sponsored by the Capitol College Alumni Association and is open to all alums and seniors.  Please RSVP by March 28 to alumni@capitol-college.edu.

National Electronics Museum

Join Capitol alumni for the second evening reception of the year, held on March 15, 2012 from 6:00 - 8:30pm at the National Electronics Museum (NEM) in Linthicum, Maryland   Focusing on the history of electronics, the NEM is a natural fit for a Capitol College alumni event.  Alums will enjoy the opportunity to tour the museum, as well as a free meal, drinks and presentations from Capitol’s Alumni Council and leadership.  RSVP by March 9 to alumni@capitol-college.edu.  For additional information regarding the NEM visit www.nationalelectronicsmuseum.org.

Northern Virginia Alumni Happy Hour

Celebrate National Engineers Week with fellow Capitol Alums at Piola in Arlington, VA from 5:30 -7:30pm on February 22, 2012.  All Capitol alums are welcome to attend, if you cannot make it and are interested in attending or bringing an alumni happy to your local area please contact alumni@capitol-college.edu.

Northern Virginia Alumni Happy Hour

The Alumni Association is looking for alums who are interested in meeting in the Northern Virginia area for a Happy Hour in the end of January 2012, date and location to be determined.  If you are interested please contact alumni@capitol-college.edu.

Holiday Party

The Alumni Reception at Union Station's Thunder Grill

Picture from the Alumni ReceptionOn November 10, 2011 close to 40 members of the Capitol College family attended an Alumni Association sponsored reception at Union Station’s Thunder Grill in Washington DC.  Representatives from Capitol’s leadership and staff team, the Alumni Council and alums from the 1960’s to 2000’s met with one another and enjoyed a wonderful meal.  Alumni Council President Ken Kassing discussed the Council’s efforts to assist alums with career needs and outreach to the community.  While the Council’s Vice President Ed Coyle highlighted alumni efforts within the student mentoring program, giving back to Capitol and upcoming Alumni Association events.  Capitol alum and Board of Trustee Mike Plass shared how he has extended his relationship with Capitol to a mutually beneficial corporate partnership with Motorola.  Dr. Michael Gibbs, Vice President for Advancement at Capitol provided several college updates and Jason Copley, Capitol’s Associate Director of Development shared information regarding new alumni benefits such as the 10% tuition discount and Liberty Mutual insurance program. Cyber Lounge Event for the Class of 2011

The Alumni Association invites the Class of 2011 back to campus to “unveil” their class gift on October 11, 2011 at 6:00pm, the new Cyber Lounge located in the Student Center. Baltimore Alumni Happy Hour Meet Up at Nick’s Fish House On October 18, 2011, There was a Meet up with Capitol alumni at Nick’s Fish House for happy hour between 5:30pm - 7:00pm. RSVP to alumni@capitol-college.edu by Oct. 17.

Innovation and Leadership Institute President’s Forum

Attend Capitol’s Fall ILI President’s Forum on October 26 at 12:00noon with speaker Robert F. Lentz, President of Cyber Security Strategies , LLC and former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense.  RSVP to alumni@capitol-college.edu by Oct. 24.

1,2,3, GO - Rocket Launch

Join Capitol alumni, students, friends and the NARHAMS Rocket Club on October 29 from 10:30am to 12:00noon for a rocket competition to fly a rocket to a 123 meter altitude. 

Fourth Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament
Benefactors, students and friends of the college gathered at Glenn Dale Golf Club on Thursday, Sept. 29 to sink putts for Capitol scholars. The event also happened to be the largest golf tournament in Capitol's history. Learn more about the Scholarship Golf Tournament at Glenn Dale.
 
August 16, 2011 National's game The Capitol College Alumni Association invited alums for a night out at the Nationals game.   

Scholarship Appreciation Breakfast             Alumni who previously received scholarships and generous scholarship benefactors are invited for breakfast in the William G. McGowan Academic Center to honor scholarship recipients. Alumnus Ed Coyle '97 addressed those in attendance and commended the students on their hard work, while also thanking benefactors for their continued dedication to Capitol's mission.

Alumni Weekend and Commencement The Capitol College Alumni welcomed alumni to campus Commencement weekend for a variety of events and activities. Alumni took campus tours on Friday and enjoyed the alumni reception that evening. After Commencement, tours were provided around the Washington D.C. area, at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum and National Air and Space Museum: Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center.

The Capitol College Alumni Association Presents “A Dinner with Professor Vergers”

A graduate of the class of 1968 and distinguished professor of more than 40 years, Capitol College welcomed Professor Charles Vergers as the first host in a series of events titled, “Dinners with the Professors.” Participating in the transformation of the institution from Capitol Institute of Technology to the modern day Capitol College, Professor Vergers has touched the lives of thousands of students through electronics, telecommunications and various technical courses.
 
At the event, Professor Vergers shared general thoughts about his time spent at Capitol and opened an informal discussion for alumni who shared fond memories and details about their time at Capitol with Professor Vergers.
