Applying for Graduation

It is recommended that you apply for graduation up to a year (and no later than one semester before) your expected graduation date. Once you have done so, you will be audited by the Office of Registration and Records to qualify you as a candidate for graduation. You must apply for graduation and pay the application fee in order to receive your diploma.

February 1: Last day for applications!
April 15: Application fees due (cannot be waived)

Fees: Bachelor and Master’s degrees - $150, Associates degree - $42

Visit the Office of Registration and Records pick up an application form, or click on the appropriate link below to download a form. Completed forms can be submitted to the Office of Registration and Records in person, e-mailed to the Office of Registration and Records, faxed to 301-369-2310 or mailed to: Michele Kelly, Capitol College, 11301 Springfield Road, Laurel, Maryland 20708.

After you file an application, you will be notified of approval and your official status. A student will only be considered a degree candidate when the above procedures are complete. If you change your plans for graduation, notify the Office of Registration and Records in writing.
Graduation Requirements

After applying for graduation, you must satisfy the following requirements in order to graduate:

  1. Complete your degree - All graduates must successfully complete the course requirements of their chosen degree. Refer to the course catalog from your entry year for degree requirements and other academic obligations. See the college advisor if you need guidance fulfilling those requirements.
    • Undergraduate requirements:
      To be recommended by faculty for award of degrees, you must satisfactorily complete the curriculum requirements for your degree program with an overall cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 and degree program cumulative GPA of at least 2.0. You are also required to have met the Capitol College residency requirements outlined in the course catalog.
    • Graduate requirements:
      Graduate degree recipients must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. Grades of D will not apply toward graduate program requirements.
  2. Settle your financial accounts - Before receiving a diploma, each student must fulfill all financial and administrative responsibilities. Contact the offices below before applying for graduation to ensure that you have no outstanding obligations to the college:
