2012 Commencement Speaker: Lt. Governor Anthony Brown

Commencement will be held on Saturday, May 12, and Lt. Governor Anthony Brown will deliver the commencement address at the Laurel campus.
 

Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown has dedicated his professional life to public service. Elected alongside Governor Martin O’Malley in 2006 and reelected in 2010, Lt. Governor Brown leads the O’Malley-Brown administration’s work to expand and improve health care, support economic development, help victims of domestic violence, increase access to higher education, and provide Veterans with better services and resources.

Prior to serving as Lt. Governor, Anthony Brown represented Prince George’s County for two terms in the Maryland House of Delegates, rising quickly to the position of Majority Whip. A Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves, Anthony Brown is the nation’s highest-ranking elected official to have served a tour of duty in Iraq.

Anthony is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School and the proud father of two children – Rebecca (17) and Jonathan (11). He lives in Prince George’s County.

Commencement Schedule

Check In | 8:00 a.m. - 8:20 a.m.
It is imperative that you arrive on time to check in. Check in is located in the Avrum Gudelsky Auditorium. Once you have checked in, you must remain in the auditorium. During check in you will receive your name card. Do not lose this card.

Regalia Fitting| 8:20 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.
This time will be used to ensure your cap and gown is on properly.

Class Photographs | 9:00 a.m.

Roll Call and Line Up | 9:30 a.m.
This will occur outside of room 244. You will be lined up alphabetically within your degree program.

Processional Will Begin | 9:45 a.m.
The Marshall of the College, Professor Charles Case, will lead the processional, followed by candidates for AAS degrees, BS degrees, MS degrees, the faculty, trustees, and other participants in the ceremony. For the recessional, the stage participants will leave first, and the graduates will follow them.

Ceremony Information

The Capitol College community gathers for commencement once every year in May on the main campus in Laurel. Commencement ceremonies are held outside, rain or shine, and students are encouraged to invite anyone they wish to attend.

Visiting Campus

Parents, friends and families of graduating students are encouraged to check the links below for directions to campus, the campus map, general parking information, local accommodations and information about the Baltimore/Washington, DC corridor. Keepsakes from the ceremony, including video and photography, can also be obtained from our select vendors.

Guests with Special Needs

Capitol provides handicapped parking for disabled or handicapped guests, situated close to the graduation tent. Staff volunteers will direct you to appropriate parking spaces and are available to assist in helping guests to their seats.

After the Ceremony
Immediately following the ceremony, family members and guests are invited to gather with the graduates for light refreshments in the Campus Center. This is a great opportunity to congratulate students, chat with faculty and staff and take pictures.
