Library Kicks Off Year-Long Event Series
September 22, 2011
The John G. and Beverly Puente Library has kicked off its series of yearlong events this with the “Guess What??? Photo Contest.” The library will feature a similar event on the last Wednesday of every month, for both the fall and spring semesters.
The photo contest features 15 zoomed-in pictures from around the Capitol campus and students are tasked with identifying each picture. The first person to identify all 15 pictures will be given a small prize. The first, second and third place winners will be announced at noon on Wednesday, Sept 28. All students are encouraged to attend the event and see how well they know the Laurel campus.
Each event in the series will be student managed, relying on the ideas and creativity of Capitol’s students.
“In the spirit of change and the new academic school year the Puente Library has decided to implement student managed monthly programs,” Semhar Yohannes, librarian, said. “These programs are conceptualized, managed and implemented by our student aides. Our students have thought of fun and engaging ways to interact with the student body while highlighting the library.
The October event will feature an "Edible Bood Contest," while a gaming contest is planned for November. One of the highlights of the year will be April’s poetry contest, which has been a tradition at Capitol for over a decade. In its 13th year, the poetry contest offers a small prize to the best poets Capitol has to offer. More information on each monthly event will be released closer to their respective dates.
“We hope the Capitol College community enjoys our monthly programs because we’ve had fun working on them,” Yohannes, said.
If you have any questions or ideas, please visit the Puente Library and talk to any of the library aides, Semhar Yohannes, or Rick Sample, director of library and information literacy.
