Small Gifts Make Big Impact this Thanksgiving
November 22, 2011
The term “give thanks” is used quite a bit around the holidays, and it can be easy to overlook some of the smaller things in life that we are truly thankful for.
This past semester, The John G. and Beverly A. Puente Library donated a set of encyclopedias to Kent Island Christian School in Chester, Md. As technology advances by the minute, it can be easy to overlook the usefulness of encyclopedias or other research materials from just a decade ago.
However, the third and fourth graders from Kent Island Christian took time to thank Capitol’s Rick Sample, director of library and information literacy, and Semhar Yohannes, librarian, for their contribution to the school. The set may have been published a lifetime ago (1998), but they have still made a big impact on these young students.
“Thank you for the encyclopedias,” Elijah Kada said. “We really like them. They tell me about Abraham Lincoln.”
“Thank you for the set of encyclopedias,” Sydney Booze, said. “I like how they are 13 years old and look so new. They are very helpful.”
“I like how they look even though they are 13 years old,” Alex Weese said. “They have been helpful for information already. They will help me with my reports.”
Capitol will close for Thanksgiving recess on Wednesday, Nov. 23 at 5 pm and will reopen on Monday Nov. 28. Capitol College wishes every member of the Capitol community and their loved ones a very Happy Thanksgiving.
