President Wood to Offer Keynote at Evanta CIO Summit
August 7, 2012
Capitol College president Dr. Michael T. Wood will be delivering the luncheon keynote address at the Evanta CIO Executive Summit in Washington, DC, this Thursday, Aug. 9. The summit is a gathering of the top Chief Information Officers in the DC area for the sharing of best practices and leadership skills in order to impact their own organizations, as well as the local and global business climate.
During the keynote, Dr. Wood will detail his thoughts on higher education's role in providing a cyber-secure America. As the cybersecurity industry continues to grow in size and importance, it is the responsibility of colleges and universities across the country to develop cybersecurity professionals who are vital to protecting the nation’s most closely-guarded information.
Dr. Helen Barker, dean; and Dr. Jason Pittman, professor; will also accompany Dr. Wood at the CIO Summit and will provide a demonstration of the college’s Cyber Battle Lab (CBL) to those in attendance. In the CBL, students simulate, detect, analyze and defeat the type of cybersecurity threats that are common in industry.
As the summit’s event description details, “By understanding vulnerabilities and maintaining security as an integral part of your strategy, you can be a leader in ensuring the stability and integrity of your organization. Michael Wood, President of Capitol College, along with faculty and students from the college’s Cyber Battle Lab, will demonstrate what it looks like to have your systems compromised from the perspective of a hacker.”
Other notable speakers at the summit include Michael Krieger, Army Deputy CIO/G-6 of the United States Army, and Kimberly Stevenson, VP and CIO of Intel Corporation. Capitol College trustee and VP of Engineering and CTO of Lockheed Martin, Haden Land, is a member of the governing body for the Evanta CIO Summit.
This is the seventh year of the Evanta CIO Summit, and the event will be held at the JW Marriott in Washington, DC.
