Two Capitol Students to Compete in National Cyber League Championship
November 30, 2012
Tomorrow, Capitol College students Brian Wilhide and Nathan Wray will both compete in the National Cyber League’s 2012 Fall Pilot Season Championship.
After three regular season competitions, Wilhide ranks No. 1 overall in the Eastern Conference, while Wray comes in at No. 10. They rank No. 2 and No. 22 in the national standings, respectively.
More than 560 students, nationwide, participated in the regular season and the top 10 qualifiers from the Eastern, Midwestern and Western Conferences will be competing in the championship.
The championship will follow a “Capture the Flag” format and will test the students’ skills in web-based application analysis, log file analysis and cryptography. The flags that the competitors must capture fall into the following categories: web exploitation, network data analysis, Linux passwords, basic cryptography, advanced cryptography and steganography.
Information assurance students at Capitol College frequently participate in cybersecurity competitions, both regionally and nationally. Students hone their skills in the college’s Cyber Lab, where they can simulate, detect, analyze and defeat various hacker attacks and cybersecurity scenarios.
