Commencement 2009: The culmination of academic success
May 12, 2009
Date: May 16, 2009
Time: 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Location: Capitol College campus, field
The big day is almost here! May 16, 2009 will mark Capitol College’s 82nd commencement ceremony. Our graduates will walk across the stage to be awarded with a degree that signifies their hard work and achievements during their Capitol years. The college welcomes this year’s Commencement speaker Colonel Paul S. Lockhart, formerly of USAF and NASA, who will address the soon-to-be alumni.
On the day of commencement, graduating students should arrive promptly at 8 a.m. in the Avrum Gudelsky Memorial Auditorium for check-in. The commencement procession will begin at 9:45 a.m. The on-campus event will take place outside regardless of weather. Current students planning to attend the ceremony should contact the Office of Registration and Records to apply for graduation and pick up previously ordered caps and gowns.
Information for students and their families can be found on the Commencement webpage. Guests should expect to arrive by 9 a.m. for the best parking and seating options. No tickets are necessary; students can invite as many guests as they wish. The ceremony will last approximately two hours. Reception to follow in the Campus Center.
To kick off the graduation weekend, Capitol College will host a Graduates’ Reception for all Class of 2009 graduates, faculty and staff on May 15, 2009 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the William G. McGowan Academic Center. This is also great opportunity for online students to visit campus and see their classmates and professors face-to-face. Hors d'oeuvres will be served and Capitol staff will be available to provide campus tours for virtually commuting students, family and friends. This year's theme is Mardi Gras, so wear bright colors and bring your masks to enter in the Best Mask contest!
Want to remember the day of your graduation for years to come? Commemorative keepsakes like school-specific diploma frames, photos, and video are a great way to save the memory of such a special occasion.
