A new chair will be running the Alumni Advisory Board at the board’s next meeting on Nov. 15.
Alumnus Richard Hansen was recently named chair following the resignation of Jerry Gibbon, who had served as chairman since 1989. Gibbon, Class of 1975, joined the advisory board in 1980 and was named on the college Board of Trustees in 1992.
A private consultant, Hansen graduated from Capitol College in 1984 and has served on the advisory board since 1996. Hansen founded Arctic Systems, a Burtonsville-based information technology firm that specialized in web-enabled databases for administrative, document management and accounting solutions.
During his time with the alumni board, he led an annual fund drive and the alumni connections committee and was named a member of the Alumni Entrepreneur Society. Hansen received a master’s degree in computer science from Johns Hopkins University.
“The college thanks Jerry for 16 years of leadership to the Alumni Advisory Board,” said Joy Johnson, director of advancement and alumni relations. “We look forward to working with Richard, another esteemed alumnus who has continuously given back to the Capitol College community.”
The Alumni Advisory Board is a group of Capitol College graduates who meet quarterly to advise the college administration on alumni matters, as well as new ideas for the college. Board members often assist the college with fund raising, seminars, student programming and special events.
