The CEO of the nation’s leader in information security education and research visited Capitol College for a two-day conference covering the most current issues facing information assurance professionals. The program, now in its fourth year, has been conducted on only 20 university campuses across the country in 2006.
More than 50 information technology professionals and senior managers attended the July 19 and 20 event, led by Ken Kousky, CEO and president of IP3 Inc. IP3, based in Saginaw, Mich., provides a full range of services targeted at assisting emerging and expanding technology companies, such as strategic product guidance on modifying the IP product, educational marketing, technical training and product support.
During the conference, “Strategy to Reality: Securing the Converged Enterprise,” Kousky explored the latest critical security issues, including the NIST Guidelines to help federal agencies fortify their systems, SANS/FBI Top 20 Vulnerabilities and the President’s National Strategy to Secure Cyberspace.
Kousky described the pitfalls and solutions taken by many organizations to cope with information assurance challenges. The sessions were well received by those attending, and many aggressively pursued answers to contemporary problems through their numerous questions during and between sessions.
The workshop was the first official event hosted by the college’s new Critical Infrastructures and Cyber Protection Center, led by information assurance expert Allan Berg.
“We plan to host more events like this one at the campus in the near future,” Berg said. “Our focus is to bring affordable one and two-day symposia to the campus throughout the year, focusing on the needs of government and industry professionals and small- to medium-sized businesses.”
The two-day seminar cost less than $200, and Berg said he plans to continue offering future events at about that price.
Founded in 2006, the center focuses on education, tailored training programs and certification testing to information technology professionals, and conducts community outreach seminars focused on the nation’s critical and cyber infrastructures. As a partner with businesses, government and academic institutions, the center conducts research and studies involving physical security, critical infrastructure and cyber assurance issues.
