Meeting classmates, taking placement tests, registering for classes, getting a feel for the campus – it's all part of the three-day orientation held for new students to Capitol College. Incoming students and their parents will get an introduction to the college experience during the event that occurs the week before fall semester starts.

Orientation for new students is scheduled Aug. 16 to Aug. 18.

Students will be able to get acquainted with the academic side of college life as well as adjust to their new environment. Not all is serious – organizers have planned social activities and icebreakers to help students get to know their classmates.

“Orientation helps us welcome our new students and gives them time to adjust without the pressure of classes,” said Melinda Bunnell-Rhyne, dean of student life and retention. “These three days let them get acquainted with the college community.”

Orientation isn't just for students. On Wednesday afternoon, parents can learn more about the college and its various offices. Presentations will be made by the student life, financial aid, business and residence life offices. Visit the orientation web site for more information.

Highlights of the week

Wednesday

• Residence hall check in for students living on campus - 8 a.m. to noon in the resident assistant office.
• New student placement testing check in - Starts at 1 p.m. Rooms 244/245

Thursday

• Student modules - 10:30 a.m. to 3:50 p.m. Students will break into groups and rotate through various sessions.
• Student Activity – 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the Student Center.

Friday

• Meet with advisors and registration – 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Room 244/245
