Capitol College and the Maryland National Guard have signed an agreement that allows Guard members to take up to 12 credit hours per academic year at one-half the full tuition cost.
Capitol College President Michael T. Wood, Ph.D., and Maj. Gen. Bruce F. Tuxill, the Adjutant General of Maryland, signed a Partners in Education memorandum during a ceremony in the McGowan Academic Center on Capitol’s campus in Laurel on June 28.
The two spoke briefly about the importance of the agreement and how it will help Guard members. General Tuxill said that many of the citizen soldiers who enroll at Capitol College will be returning from a year or more of active duty service. "I applaud our men and women for making the sacrifice, and I applaud this college for helping these men and women come back and continue their education," he said.
The half-price tuition applies across the board to all degree and certificate courses, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The agreement applies to students already enrolled at Capitol as well as new students.
Capitol College is the only institution that is offering Maryland National Guard members such a substantial discount on graduate programs. Guard members throughout the state can enroll in Capitol’s graduate programs, which meet entirely online in a live, real-time format.
"We look forward to a long relationship with the Guard," Wood said. "We are proud to honor our servicemen and women with better access to a high-quality college education."
