Capitol College is pleased to announce that Dr. W. Vic Maconachy, formerly of the National Security Agency (NSA), has been appointed by as Vice President and Chief Academic Officer. Capitol will welcome him as the newest staff member beginning in October 2007.
In selecting Dr. Maconachy as one of his Vice Presidents, President Dr. Michael Wood cited his extensive experience and vision when assisting numerous universities develop undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs in information technology. His success in working with international communities and vast administrative experience also impressed Dr. Wood, who says "Vic Maconachy will bring vision, leadership, and academic acumen to a growing institution that provides exceptional technology education as we continue into the 21st century."
Before accepting this position, Dr. Maconachy served as Deputy Senior Computer Science Authority for NSA/Central Security Service, where he led research in several areas of cryptology and established a development program for next generation of Cryptologic Computer Scientists. Prior to his senior position, Dr. Maconachy served as the program manager of the National Information Assurance Education and Training Program of NSA where he was responsible for implementing a multidimensional, inter-agency program that provides direct support and guidance to major Department of Defense components, the services, federal agencies, and the National Information Infrastructure community.
Professionally, Dr. Maconachy has proven to be extremely involved in several programs related to his field; he has served as chairman of the Education Training and Awareness group of the presidential chartered Committee for National Security Systems, and as the program manager for the Department of Defense’s Information Assurance Scholarship Program. He is also a founder, past chair, and member of the National Colloquium for Information Systems Security Education.
Dr. Maconachy has published extensively throughout his career in government, and has been the recipient of numerous awards and recognition including the prestigious Department of Defense Meritorious Service Medal.
