Golfers at the First Annual Capitol College Scholarship Golf Tournament held on Friday, October 5, 2007 may have scored low on the course, but they scored high with scholarship students.
The tournament proved to be a huge success for Capitol. The cool, misty morning at Patuxent Greens in Laurel saw college executives, alumni, staff members, representatives from sponsoring businesses and friends of Capitol come out and play a round for a great cause. Approximately $7,000 was raised for the Scholarship Fund through golfer participation, sponsors and donations.
At the awards luncheon Robert Houle, a Robert White Scholarship student who golfed in the tournament, reminded the golfers how much their participation and contributions mean to the students. He said that, "The Scholarship Fund makes it possible for me to get my degree, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart."
Herve Franceschi, Kristen Franceschi, Tom Anderson and Colin Moorehouse comprised the foursome of winners who received plaques commemorating their win, gift certificates to Patuxent’s Pro Shop, and a formal invitation to participate again next year. The second-place threesome of Bob Lentz, Robert Lentz, and Ross Ellberg received lesser versions of the first-place prize. Several mini-contests were held during the course of the afternoon and the Closest-to-the-pin winner, Tom Anderson, qualified to take a $1 Million shot.
Capitol President Dr. Michael Wood added his appreciation for everyone who played and volunteered, and credited much of the college's success to those who donate and participate in such events.
