"Be All You Can Be"

November 28, 2007 Laurel, Maryland

Families and friends of Capitol students, along with esteemed faculty and staff members, gathered in Arvum Gudelsky Memorial Auditorium on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 for the annual Honors Convocation, held to recognize the hard work and academic achievements of the Capitol students within the past year.

Featured speaker Harold Stinger, a Capitol alumnus and CEO of SGT, Inc. spoke to students on the importance of striving to "be all they can be." Stinger wants students to "put their blinders on" when it comes to the successes of others, and to compare themselves only to the limits of their own potential. The dynamic speaker also said that what sets an exceptional student apart is a commitment to excellence; and that commitment is clearly represented at Capitol.

Stinger's segue into the Honors Convocation was fitting, because the students who were recognized for their achievements are destined to be among the top practitioners in their chosen fields and industries. With 37 students on the Dean's List, 14 Alpha Chi Honor Society inductees, another 14 Space Operations Institute award recipients, and over 100 scholarship recipients, it's easy to see that "commitment to excellence" abounds among the students here.

"It really puts it into perspective for me to see someone like Harold Stinger, who used to go to Capitol, come here as a representative for his own company," said Melody Ford, an Alpha Chi Honor Society inductee. "It makes me realize that my successes don't end after I graduate."
