Professor Hervé Franceschi on Thursday, March 24 will offer a colloquium open to the college community on the "Use of Multimedia Movies to Teach Computer Science."
During the presentation, Franceschi will demonstrate various animated movies, as well as illustrate how programs such as Macromedia's Director and Flash can be used as tools in programming classes. He'll also show how students can read a small code segment, step through the code one statement at a time and have a visual feedback on the impact of the code's execution.
The colloquium is open to all faculty, staff and students. It will take place from noon to 1 p.m. in the McGowan Center of the Puente Library.
Franceschi presented a paper in October on the same subject matter to the Consortium for Computing Sciences in Colleges, hosted by Loyola College in Maryland. Franceschi said the initial concept for the paper sprung from his collaborative work on a Java textbook with Capitol College computer science Professor Julie Anderson.
