Capitol College Named “Military Friendly” by G.I. Jobs Magazine

LAUREL, MD (September 13, 2011) – G.I. Jobs magazine has recently deemed Capitol College a “military friendly” institution in its latest issue, for the third consecutive year. The magazine, which surveyed over 8,000 institutions, ranks Capitol in the top 20 percent of all colleges, universities and trade schools nationwide.

Because many of Capitol’s programs are offered online, completing a degree is possible anywhere Internet access is available. Flexible class times including weekday evenings and Saturdays, allow active duty, reserves, veterans and National Guard members the chance to pursue their education amidst their busy lives. Courses blend synchronous (real-time), professor-led events with asynchronous learning sessions in which students access and study course material at their convenience.

“Capitol College is proud to be honored by G.I. Jobs magazine as military friendly for the third consecutive year,” Tony Miller, director of graduate admissions and military liaison, said. “The flexibility and affordability of Capitol’s degree programs make the institution perfect for those military members that serve our country.”

Capitol is dedicated to providing active-duty military and veterans with an affordable, accessible, and innovative career-focused education, and a high level of student service. Participating in the Yellow Ribbon Program, which is part of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008, is one such example.

Additionally, Maryland National Guard members are also eligible for a 50 percent tuition discount. Capitol College is a consortium member of the Service members Opportunity Colleges (SOC) committed to offering military members reasonable transfer of credits, reduced academic residency and credit for military training and experience.

Capitol College is the only independent college in Maryland dedicated to education in engineering, computer science, information technology and business through practices of leadership and innovation. Founded in 1927, Capitol offers associate, bachelor’s and master's degrees, a Doctor of Science in Information Assurance, professional development training and certificates. Academic programs are grounded in centers of excellence; these include the Space Operations Institute, the Critical Infrastructures and Cyber Protection Center, the Innovation and Leadership Institute, and the Center for Space Science Education and Public Outreach. The college campus is located in Laurel, Maryland, a suburban setting midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC. www.capitol-college.edu.
