BA in Communication from College of Notre Dame of Maryland
Working toward MA in Communication in a Contemporary Culture from Notre Dame of Maryland University
Working at Capitol since: 2010
What first made you interested in your job/career?
I truly enjoyed my college experience and when I was given the opportunity to work in higher education I jumped at the chance. I knew I would also be able to get my MA at the same time.
What is your favorite part about your position?
My favorite part would be working with students who truly want and appreciate the value of higher education. They challenge me and encourage me at the same time.
What is your most enjoyable project or event?
Thus far the most enjoyable project for me has been working with our CHIP program. This program allows ten students from Charles H. Flowers High School to come to Capitol and take one class each semester in their field of study. They are some of the best students I have ever had the honor of working with.
Why Capitol? What makes it different?
Capitol is like no other school I have worked for, they know who they are and they embrace it. It makes my job of recruiting students so much easier.
What are some of your proudest academic and professional accomplishments?
I have spent the last four years working on my MA and I have paid for every cent of it by myself. Through traveling for work and working more than 40 hours a week I have taken two classes each semester in order to finish as quickly as possible. There have been many tears, much stress and exhaustion but come Dec. I will officially have my degree. When I think about it, it will be one of the proudest moments in my life.
What are some of your hobbies or interests outside of work? What is something that students or coworkers might not know about you?
I love to read which is funny because when I was younger I was an awful reader and I hated it. Now I could sit for hours with a good book. People may not know that a few years ago I started a novel and after I finish my MA degree I intend to finish my novel.
