Lt. Governor Brown to hold BRAC press conference at Capitol College
LAUREL – Capitol College will welcome Lt. Governor Anthony Brown on April 23, 2010 at 10:45 a.m. for a Base Realignment and Closure press conference focusing on cyber security, following the recent Maryland Higher Education Commission, BRAC Higher Education Investment Fund FY 2010 award of $92,992 to Capitol for the establishment of a Cyber Battle Lab.
“We are honored to welcome the Lt. Governor to campus,” said Capitol President Michael T. Wood. “The BRAC grant and the subsequent Cyber Battle Lab will put our college on the map as one of the best in information assurance education, and we want state leaders to be informed and included as part of the process. The Cyber Battle Lab will not only prepare our students for an evolving workforce, but can also raise the level of skill in the current information assurance workforce and set the standard for laboratory facilities in this critical industry.”
Also during his visit, Lt. Governor Brown will award Capitol College with the funding for the Cyber Battle Lab, and receive a tour of the campus and new Cyber Battle Lab facilities, still under development. The Cyber Battle Laboratory, which will provide intensive hands-on laboratory experiences to increase the IA knowledge of students enrolled in both undergraduate and graduate IA degree programs, offers a secure learning environment where various hacker attacks can be simulated, detected and analyzed, and systems are restored.
“I applaud Capitol College and the ten other institutions of higher education on their successful grant application. It is only through our partnerships that Maryland will reap every benefit of BRAC,” Lt. Governor Brown said in a press release announcing the BRAC Higher Education Investment Fund FY 2010 awards. “Governor O’Malley and I have set clear priorities that put an emphasis on job creation and we wholly understand that our strong network of public, independent and community colleges play an important role in reaching our ambitious goals.”
