George Walls

Director of Admissions

Education

  • BA Art/Visual Communications, North Carolina Central University

Responsibilities: Leading the admissions office team in coordinating the recruitment and enrollment of incoming prospective students.

Worked at Capitol since: 2008

What motivated you to work in higher education, and what do you enjoy most about the profession?

I worked in college marketing and consulting for years before I entered the admissions field. In our role as enrollment managers, we are often key players in opening doors for students who might not have otherwise had the opportunity to go to college. The few inspirational words we have the chance to share can have a huge impact on people’s lives.

What is your most enjoyable project?

Right now, it’s the Capitol Scholars Program. Capitol College has created an opportunity for motivated students to afford a first class education in engineering and technology. There aren’t many full scholarships out there, especially for students interested in STEM. This is great for the school, but it’s phenomenal for our students!

Describe any of your proudest professional accomplishments, awards, publications, etc.

One of my proudest professional moments was being selected for the CollegeBound Foundation’s “Advocate Award”, given in recognition of exemplary civic leadership and drive in improving the education of Baltimore’s youth.

What book is on your nightstand right now?

“The Art of Negotiation”

What do you enjoy most about working at Capitol?

The incredible things our students do and the inspiration they provide to young people interested in our programs.

Is there anything that you’ve learned from students or co-workers that you take to heart?

That aside from sheer talent and natural academic ability, you can succeed at Capitol College through motivation and hard work alone.

What one technology do you wish were available now?

Teleportation pods. My commute is ridiculous!

What kinds of projects/committees/groups are you active in on-campus?

NSBE and the upcoming Capitol Robotics Team!

What are your interests and activities off-campus?

I have no off campus interests.

What should incoming students and other staff members know about you as a person and as a professional?

That I would do this job, or something close to it, even if I had millions of dollars and didn’t need to work. I know that I have a wealth of talent on the admissions team, but our success is a result of going the extra mile and above and beyond the call of duty.
