LAUREL - The Innovation and Leadership Institute at Capitol College announces the publication of the first installment of a three-book series that serves as a resource for students, faculty and professionals to engage in the ongoing academic discussion of innovative leadership.

The first book, Perspectives on Leadership Education: Strategies for Leading and Innovation, edited by Dr. Michael G. Gibbs, vice president for advancement, and Dr. Helen G. Barker, dean, is a compilation of essays on various topics from leadership theory and the characteristics of great leaders, to technical leadership and leadership in education. The book is formatted for easy use by students and professors alike.

“As part of the Capitol College mission, we are developing our nation’s future technology workforce and we dedicate this book to those who will be our future leaders in science, technology, engineering and math fields,” says Dr. Michael G. Gibbs, vice president for advancement and author. “A special thank you to the generous benefactors who support this book series and the other Innovation and Leadership Institute events presented this past year.”

Perspectives is available for purchase on Amazon.com. Students and faculty should look forward to the next installment of the series, Telecommunications Pioneers, written by Dr. Michael T. Wood, available Fall 2010, and a book on leadership styles, edited by Dr. Helen G. Barker and Dr. Michael G. Gibbs, coming winter 2010-2011.

Capitol College established the ILI to respond to the regional and national needs for developing students with the technical leadership skills necessary for a successful career in private industry, government and the nonprofit sector. By publishing this series the ILI is fulfilling one of the institution’s goals of contributing to the ongoing academic discussion of best practices in the emerging field of innovative leadership.
