Frequently Asked Questions

Why do sales, marketing and business development professionals need continuing education?

We know that the government market is a very competitive arena, and with tighter budgets, it will get even more competitive. The best way to ensure that you (as an individual) are adding value to your company is to make certain that you are on top of the best strategies and tactics in the market, regardless of your discipline. It is our goal to be the leading provider of continuing education for sales, marketing, business development and social media professionals in the government contracting market, and to help C-levels novice to the market navigate the landscape in the most expeditious manner possible.

What is the overall goal of the GMM program?

Our goal is to develop world-class ongoing education and training for professionals in the government market. We are seeking a select group of top quality companies and associations that provide services to this market to become sponsors and partners in promoting the program to the broadest possible audience.

How is the GOVERNMENT MARKET MASTER™ CERTIFICATE PROGRAM different than other National Capital Region-based “Business-to-Government” offerings?

GMM is a comprehensive (breadth and depth oriented) approach to learn and leverage best practices, processes and methodologies to enable executives, managers and professionals – and their respective companies – to successfully target, engage, win and sustain Federal Government business. Co-developed by Mark Amtower and Kevin Young and offered by Capitol College, the program leverages Amtower’s nationally recognized GOVERNMENT MARKET MASTER™ seminars, speeches, articles and books. Furthermore, during the 2011 trial course offerings, participation from leading companies confirmed they understood the tremendous value of ensuring that key members of their staff receive training that can make the difference between winning or losing a contract or maximizing the value of an existing GWAC (government wide acquisition contract) or IDIQ (indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract).

How did you select topics and instructors?

The GOVERNMENT MARKET MASTER™ CERTIFICATE PROGRAM has a Board of Advisors made up of industry contractors to help us research and select the most beneficial topics and most capable subject-matter-experts to lead course instruction. Based on our ongoing research as well as input from the Board, we believe our team consists of some of the best available talent in this market. GMM instructors include leaders from business (small, medium and large), government agencies and departments, NGOs, corporations, boards and commissions, accounting firms, lobbying organizations, contracting and law firms, marketing and advertising firms, business development and proposal firms, print and broadcast media organizations, and other key associations and organizations.

Who has participated?

GMM participants have included American Systems, Deltek, General Dynamics, Jones Lang LaSalle, Kforce Government Solutions, NCS Technologies, Raytheon, SAS, Smiths Medical, VeriSign and many government contracting small business set-aside firms.

How do students earn certificate(s)?

Students earn a full GOVERNMENT MARKET MASTER™ certificate and/or individual track certificates in the area(s) of Marketing, Social Media, Business Development, Sales and/or Business Management by completing the full complement of courses from one or more specialty track(s). As participants complete individual courses, they are issued certificate(s) of course completion as evidence of their participation.

Are GMM courses credit bearing that can later be applied toward a bachelor’s or master’s degree?

No. Participants do not receive academic credit for this coursework, but rather, receive CPEs (continuing professional education units). CPEs are most typically used to offset training requirements stipulated by various companies who offer globally recognized industry certificates.

Is there flexibility to attend when and where I want?

Yes, this is our goal. Initially though, the first round of course offerings is scheduled to be held in person on our campus in Laurel, Maryland - just off the Baltimore-Washington Parkway (I-295) (Directions to Campus). Ultimately though, we do envision offering the courses virtually, with 24/7/365 global access via webcasts.

What is the cost? Are discounts available?

In general, classes are structured and priced as 1-hour ($150), 2-hour ($295), 4-hour ($495), and 8-hour ($990) presentations. 10% tuition discounts are available for Organization Cohort Groups. We will offer discounts to multiple attendees from the same company and we can provide an ongoing discount program for companies that perceive an ongoing need for the type of education we provide. Please contact us for details.

What about customized training programs?

We can and will provide customized training for companies seeking to educate both front line professionals and C-levels in the complexities of doing business with the government. We can provide this training at Capitol College or virtually through webinars. In some instances we may be able to deliver programming on the client site.
