First-time Students

You're a first-time freshman applicant if you have never enrolled in a college or university after receiving a high school diploma. If you received college credit while attending high school, you're also considered a freshman.

However, if you have previously attended college and earned 15 or more credits, you are considered a transfer student. For more information on transfer requirements and the application process, click here.

Steps in Applying

Step 1: If you're a first-time freshman under the age of 22, take the SAT I or ACT.
Have the scores sent to us. Our official SAT and ACT codes are the same: 5101. Capitol does award credits for Advanced Placement tests. To receive credit, you should have a score of 3 or higher. Have your scores sent to Capitol.

Step 2: Complete the application.

Step 3: Have your high school transcripts sent to Capitol.
An official, signed transcript of your high school work must be sent directly from your school to this address:

Office of Admissions
Capitol College
11301 Springfield Road
Laurel, MD 20708

Your school should also submit your ACT or SAT scores, if you have not had the testing agency send the scores directly to the Office of Admissions. Our code is 5101.

Step 4: Visit the campus.
Come see firsthand our state-of-the-art Unix and Windows computer labs, high-tech electronic labs and multimedia classrooms. We welcome visits anytime, but we also offer special visiting days. RSVP to one of our open houses or request a private tour of the campus.

Step 5: Explore financial aid.
Capitol College offers scholarships, private and institutional grants, private and federal loan options, federal and Capitol College work-study programs, and veteran's benefits. We'll assist you by putting together the best financial aid package that works for you. Learn about our financial aid programs.

Step 6: You can expect a decision within two weeks of submitting your completed application packet.
You can apply - and get accepted - any time before fall registration in late August or early September, or before spring registration in January. (Please note that we encourage students to submit applications well before these registration periods, and to pay attention to financial aid priority dates.)
