International Students

Capitol College provides a focused, practical undergraduate education in engineering, computer sciences, information technologies or business. With its small class sizes, specialized degree programs and great location near Washington, DC, Capitol College has much to offer international students. The college does not provide graduate degree programs to international students.

Academic requirements

  • Review the academic requirements for first-time students or transfer students, whichever pertains to your situation. Transfer students are those who have attended another college or university and have earned at least 15 credits (approximately five courses).
  • Take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and have it submitted to Capitol College (minimum paper-based test score of 500 or computer-based test score of 173 required); submit proof of completing a specified level of proficiency at an English language school; or submit proof of satisfactory completion of English courses at an accredited university or college within the United States.

Steps in applying

Step 1: Complete the application for admission as far in advance as possible.
You can request an application by calling 1-800-950-1992 or 1-800-522-7486.  When submitting the application, be sure to include the $200 non-refundable processing fee.

Step 2: Have transcripts sent to Capitol (a high school transcript if you're a first-year student, college and university transcripts if you're a transfer student).

An official, signed transcript of all your academic work must be sent directly from your school(s) to the Office of Admissions. It should be translated into English and certified by an authorized translation service.

Step 3: Submit your TOEFL score or an alternative as described above.

Step 4: Submit a statement of finances.
You must submit proof of sufficient financial resources for living and educational expenses. Documents must be original and current (within six months of your anticipated start date). Proof of financial support can be:

  • A letter of sponsorship or scholarship from a government agency or corporation. This letter must outline specific billing procedures.
  • A declaration and certification of finances on the second page on the international admissions application with supporting bank statements and employment verification.
  • An original letter from each sponsor accompanied by supporting bank statements and/or employment verification.

International applicants sponsored by individuals or family members must make a tuition deposit of $500 with Capitol College prior to formal acceptance and issuance of an I-20 form (a form that certifies the student is eligible for “Nonimmigrant (F-1) Student Status”). An I-20 will be issued 10 to 14 days after the tuition deposit has been processed. Note that international students are not eligible for institutional scholarships or federal financial aid.

You can expect an admissions decision within three to five weeks of submitting your completed application and necessary documents.
